Single Stream Recycling Has Come To Cavendish!

We are all set-up and began greatly expanded recycling at the Cavendish Transfer Station on Saturday, November 23rd, 2013!

The installation of the new, blue compactor allows us to take a very wide variety of mixed recycling items right here in Cavendish!  Single stream recycling items are taken for free!

The list of items acceptable for the recycling is long, so please click on the PDF icon below to see and print a copy of a handy Cavendish Recycling Guide Booklet. These booklets are also be available at the Transfer Station and the Town Office as a hand-out.

To get our expanded, single stream, recycling going, we have contracted with Casella Waste Management for what they call their "Zero-Sort" Recycling.  Our single stream recycling materials go into a compactor box and is hauled to the Casella Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Rutland where they are sorted and baled for the recycled materials market. The sorting process is very interesting. It employs high speed conveyors and both automated mechanical and manual sorting.

Take a look at the video to see where your recycling materials are going!  Here's the link to a video on Casella's "Zero-Sort" - please click on it to view:
